WHY WE REALLY WANT YOU IN THIS JOB
- You have a minimum of two (2) years of successful and relevant experience, including project work with water rights in Oregon and/or Washington; experience with water supply planning and water resource management is a plus.
- You have a desire to develop and execute consulting work in the Pacific Northwest, with an emphasis in Oregon.
- You have strong attention to detail and can successfully manage concurrent tasks and schedules for multiple projects.
- You can provide technical assistance in both the field and office in support of water supply investigations, and in preparation of water right transactions, maintaining communication with clients and state agencies.
- You possess effective communication skills, including technical writing and the ability to speak clearly in public to convey technical ideas to a non-technical audience.
- You are familiar with Microsoft Office and software packages for data analysis and visualization; experience with field data collection systems and/or GIS is a plus.
MORE ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS
You will work collaboratively with a team of highly skilled individuals on a variety of small to large water resource planning and water rights projects from our Portland, Oregon office. Summit provides flexibility for a mix of remote and office work, as allowed by project requirements and schedule.
Typical tasks may include:
- Identifying and researching water rights associated with project properties
- Reviewing and interpreting water right files relative to Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) and Washington State Department of Ecology rules and regulations
- Reviewing and interpreting water use data, metering data, land use, and crop records
- Conducting field investigations, including estimation of water use, water level measurement of wells, streamflow monitoring, and a range of related activities to support water resource development projects
- Analyzing quantitative data, performing simple to complex quantitative spreadsheet analyses, providing scientific interpretations, and preparing technical reports
- Developing water resource management studies, including evaluation of hydrology, groundwater, water quality, and water demand data in the context of water supply management
- Performing a range of water right transactional activities including new water use permit applications, transfer applications, permit and transfer time extensions, water management and conservation plans, and claims of beneficial use (COBU) applications
- Participating in team and client meetings for project scoping and to present findings and results
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- BA or BS degree in geology, hydrogeology, water resource engineering, or related field; MS degree in a related field is a plus
- Oregon and/or Washington Certified Water Rights Examiner (CWRE) license, or Geologist Registration (GIT, RG, PG, and/or LHG) is a plus
This position requires the ability and willingness to:
- Periodically work a flexible schedule, occasionally including overtime, and possible evenings, weekends, and holidays based on project requirements
- Undertake periodic travel, including possible short-and long-term assignments to remote project locations, primarily in Oregon and Washington
- Work in varying and adverse weather conditions and traverse varying terrain
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Work independently, with professionalism and excellent responsiveness, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Be eligible to work in the United States
- Possess and maintain a driving record acceptable to our insurer
